Mind Body Connection

You may already have some beliefs about the relationship between the mind and the body, especially if you’ve ever been sick over a dying pet or an IRS audit.

We now have evidence that mind and body are actually one…..two interconnected parts of the same whole.  The mind and the body cannot help but affect each other.  Dr. Candace Pert, a molecular biologist formerly at the National Institute of Health and Professor of Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience at Rutgers University proved through research that ALL cells in the body communicate with each other via “messenger molecules” called peptides.  When you’re grieving, one type of peptide messenger will be in your bloodstream and when you’re ecstatic, a different one will be present.  Peptide receptors---which peptides seek out because they are a perfect fit---appear on ALL cells throughout the body. That is why emotions affect every cell in our body, not just those in our heads.  In a phrase, Dr. Pert’s research demonstrated that our minds are in every cell of our bodies.

Holistic health believes that mind, body and spirit form a trilogy. They are all connected and when we get
sick we need to remember that they are all connected.  How we can help ourselves get or stay well
is an individual path.  There are a variety options available but only you know what will work for
you. The combination of modern medical science and ancient healing practices is the most
powerful assortment of choices we have ever had at our disposal.  We only need to listen to our own
mind- body-spirit and partner with healthcare providers who respect this wisdom and can
enhance our healing practice.
